About Shonette Reed

Shonette_Reed-4.jpg

Shonette Reed started as a freelance journalist and blogger in 2014, after receiving her B.A. in Journalism, with writing assignments and projects for ForHarriet, HerDaily, LOCALE Magazine, ORS Hair Care, The Lincoln Motor Company, and AdoreMe. In 2017, Shonette launched Resolute Magazine– a Christian Arts & Culture Magazine geared firstly toward the BIPOC community. She started Resolute Magazine after seeing a lack of representation and coverage for BIPOC in Christian media. In 2018, Shonette worked as a Digital Marketing Assistant with Moody Publishers where she has learned content and social media strategy.

In late 2019, she started working with Moody Radio. After graduating with her Master's Degree in May 2020, she has gone through the Tessera Editorial Mentorship program to hone her skills in and knowledge of the book publishing industry. In July 2020, she worked as a social media intern with Permission to Write and in her short time with them helped PTW gain 500+ new followers on their Twitter account. Her most recent position was at CityPoint Community Church where she served as the Content and Community Coordinator.

CityPoint Community Church planned for a Worship Collective Mid-May. The theme for the graphics for promoting this special addition to Sunday service reflect bright colors that are showing the nearness of summer as well as sticking with the hip-hop-influenced style that exists at CityPoint Community Church. This was created in addition to individual worship leader and guest worship leader graphics.

Chicago's Black History

CityPoint Community Church is one of Chicago's predominantly Black churches that serves a Black millennial audience. For Black History Month 2022, we focused on Chicago's Black History highlighting 7 historical figures that have placed Chicago front and center and made the city proud.

The color purple was chosen since purple represents royalty. The font and ombre background with texture was chosen as a representation of CityPoint's hip-hop-influenced style, particularly visuals from late 80s and 90s rap.

The 9 Types of Readers

GRID.jpg

In 2018, Moody Publishers launched its first sale in celebration of Book Lover's Day. This sale brought in over $100,000 within its first year. In 2019, after noticing the trend in publishers and book accounts sharing about "types of readers," I worked to create 9 archetypes that would work as marketing for Moody Publishers. The goal was to show that whatever type of reader you are, there is a book for you. The sale brought in over $100,000 for the second year in a row.

Resolute Magazine

Issue 3: Identity

Issue 1 + 2 Digital.png

Each issue of Resolute Magazine is themed, and this particular issue navigates the question of Identity. Who am I? Outside of my accomplishments, work, the opinions of others. This issue looks at the concept of identity and how we can find it outside of those things and be reminded of who we are as we rest.

Resolute Magazine

Issue 2: Beauty in Brokenness

Untitled design (1).png

Since starting Resolute Magazine in 2017, I have been the go-to person for all things Resolute Magazine. For the second issue, I had the chance to work with Anjola Coker to bring the theme of "Beauty in Brokenness" to life with the cover image. The interior design is balanced with bright and muted tones as well as a collection of essays, poems, and an interview. Edited by myself and my team for the second issue.

Top Performing Reels

CityPoint Community Church

With CityPoint being a church, Reels are often pulled from sermons and worship. With that, the creation of these reels have to answer the question of what is CityPoint's audience talking about? What resonates with them? What is meaningful to them as they scroll their feed and visit out profile? And, lastly, how can we continue the conversation outside of Sunday service? For the most part, with reels, I chose the content from week to week that catered to CityPoint's audience– young, professional, Black millennials.
